Abbott Ireland— Zero Waste to Landfill Initiative
At a global level, Abbott work to reduce its global environmental impacts – from the sourcing of raw materials, to the manufacture and distribution of products, as well as to the use and disposal of products by consumers and health care providers. Abbott’s environmental stewardship initiatives help protect the planet while improving efficiency, reducing costs and preserving the company’s ability to do business in the future. Abbott has three global environmental stewardship initiatives help protect the planet while improving efficiency, reducing costs and preserving the company’s ability to do business in the future. Abbott has three global goals; reduce direct carbon emissions, reduce water usage by 50%, and reduce volume of waste by 50% by 2015.
Abbott’s Zero Waste to Landfill initiative saw four manufacturing sites achieve zero operational waste landfill, eliminating all waste sent to landfill from the sites by 340 cumulative tones annually (or roughly the same weight as 43 buses).
Citi— Project CEIST ***WINNER***
Citi’s Project ‘CEIST’ approach reflects a genuine commitment to sustainability and prompts us to ask questions of ourselves, dig deeper and enhance our work practices such that we further reduce our impact on the environment. They have succeeded and reduce cost in doing so, but it is not just about the energy and it is not just about saving money. In addition, Citi is taking a multi-directional approach to being green and are embracing all the wider reaching social aspects as well. It is as much about doing what is right for society now and for the generations to follow.
Within the objectives for Project CEIST include; support and involvement for its entire staff, providing a cleaner and healthier work environment, for our employees and a cleaner environment for society as a whole, set a real, positive example for employees which boosts morale and makes Citi a better place to work in and lastly improving efficiency and potentially lowering energy utilization does reduce our cost and makes them more competitive, safeguarding jobs.
Intel Ireland—Reduce Our Energy
Reduce Our Energy is a community initiative that provides an energy management tool or to a pilot group of five local businesses and five local schools, coupled with an on line resource that will provide real time energy usage data and resources for energy management and reduction. Its main concern is climate change and within its objectives include; providing an exciting local initiative with a focus on energy management and reduction in the local area to promote energy awareness and demonstrate Intel’s commitment to the local community and environment. Demonstrate the benefits of technology to increase energy awareness and lastly, to explore and communicate the merging social network trends with relation to energy awareness.
Results of this project include the savings of over 10 tonnes of CO2 per year (this is taking 2 cars off the roads permanently or 1120 gallons of petrol saved). The project was launched on April of 2011 and its staff volunteered to be mentors for the project they began by installing an electric power meter in each location.
