President of Galway Chamber Conor O’Dowd launched the eighth Galway Chamber Business Awards in the presence of the Mayor of Galway Councillor Noel Larkin at the offices of Galway Chamber on Tuesday 27 September.
Having welcomed the guests, the President began by thanking Shannon Airport, represented by Mary Considine, Director, Shannon Group, the main sponsor of the Awards, without whom the Awards could not take place.
He also sincerely thanked Category Sponsors: WestBIC/Galway Technology Centre, AIB, Vhi Healthcare, Bank of Ireland, Galway City Council, the Port of Galway, new category sponsor this year, SCCUL, and Media Partner, Galway City Tribune, for their support in these Awards.
Addressing the attendees, the President spoke about this year’s Awards:
‘This year, the theme for the Awards is ‘Barr Feabhais sa bhFiontraíocht’ or ‘Excellence in Enterprise’. This theme is central to the work of the members of Galway Chamber and our work in representing them. The spirit of enterprise has never been as evident as it currently is in Galway.
‘We are seeing a wave of start-up and accelerating companies, side by side, and learning from, our established businesses, across all sectors. Likewise, our creative and artistic communities continue to excel’, the President said.
He added that Galway Chamber is looking forward to being the European Capital of Culture 2020 and all the exciting challenges and opportunities it affords our members, both in the run up to 2020, the year itself and in the legacy years to follow.
Finally, Conor O’Dowd concluded:
‘This year’s Business Awards aim to recognise and celebrate companies of all sizes and sectors across the membership of Galway Chamber and, in the case of emerging enterprises, future members of the Chamber, on their successes and achievements. The Awards provide a valuable platform for the shortlisted companies and we hope they will follow in their predecessors’ footsteps, many of whom have gone on to be industry leaders.’
The Galway Chamber Gala Ball will take place on November 19th in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Galway when the Awards will be presented.
Galway Chamber encourages all Chamber members to challenge for these awards and wish each entrant every success.
