Chambers Ireland welcomes Labour force growth, but competitiveness still key

Chambers Ireland today (28 August 2018) welcomes the results from the CSO Labour Force Survey showing continued employment growth in the Irish economy for the second quarter of 2018.

Chambers Ireland Chief Executive Ian Talbot commented,

“Today’s CSO Labour Force survey results are a welcome and reassuring statistic as we move closer to the Budget 2019 announcement in Autumn.

Caution must still be adhered to however, as the need for competitiveness of the Irish economy must be front and centre so that we can maintain cost competitiveness and prepare for the uncertainties of a potential ‘no-deal’ Brexit scenario.

In our Pre-Budget submission, we have called for steps to be taken by Government to boost labour market participation, for example through greater investment for early years’ childcare services to minimise the cost of childcare for parents.

A competitive workforce will help Ireland’s economy withstand any future challenges.”
