Cobh & Harbour Chamber brings you the final Business Breakfast of 2021 featuring Lt Dubheasa Ni Cionnach of the Irish Naval Service.
The Naval Service provides the maritime component of the State’s Defence capabilities and is the State’s principal seagoing agency. It protects Ireland’s interests at and from the sea and is tasked with maritime defence and security operations including drug interdiction, protecting Ireland’s Sea Lines of Communications, Fisheries, and offshore resources. The Naval Service operates jointly within the tripartite Defence Forces with the Army and Air Corps and is based in Haulbowline Island in Cork Harbour.
Lieutenant (NS) Dubheasa Ní Cionnach completed recruit training and qualified as a Seaman Gunner serving onboard LÉ Aoife. In 2008 she began a cadetship and was commissioned as an officer in 2010. She went on to complete various roles in the Navy most recently afloat as 2nd in Command (2i/C) LÉ Ciara, and ashore as a member of the Flag Officers staff in planning, policy and enterprise. With a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science from the National Maritime College of Ireland, Dubheasa earned the Navstar Trophy for excellence in Electronic Navigation Subjects. She also has a Bachelor of Civil Law from University College Cork. She lives in North Cork with her husband Alan and their three children. She coaches children’s soccer in her spare time.
