Lobbying Act resources
The Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015 was signed into law on Wednesday 11th March 2015 by President Michael D. Higgins and commenced on 1st September 2015.
The purpose of the Act is to provide for a web-based Register of Lobbying to make information available to the public on the identity of those communicating with Designated Public Officials (DPOs) on specific policy, legislative matters or prospective decisions. Chambers Ireland view this legislation as an opportunity to show the constructive and productive dialogue that Chambers Ireland and the broader Chamber Network, regularly engage in with public officials and elected representatives around the country.
Under the legislation any meetings or communications that take place between a Chamber and a “Designated Public Official” (TDs, Senators, members of local authorities, prescribed public officials etc. as set out under “Designated Public Officials”) will have to be recorded by the Chamber.
Chambers will have to file three reports annually that include details of all lobbying activity engaged in by the Chamber.
- 21 September 2018 – Returns due for return period 1 May – 31 August 2018
- 21 January 2019 – Returns due for return period 1 September – 31 December 2018
- 21 May 2019 – Returns due for return period 1 January – 30 April 2019
