Circular 10/14 A Welcome Revision But Must Have Immediate Impact

Chambers Ireland has welcomed today’s (17/04/14) launch of initiatives to assist SMEs in public procurement but cautioned that the proof will be in the amount of local purchasing undertaken here in Ireland.

Speaking this morning, Chambers Ireland Deputy Chief Executive Seán Murphy said “Chambers Ireland has consistently called for the full implementation of Circular 10/10 since it was issued. Circular 10/14 is a positive revision and we welcome the improved measures to support SMEs contained within. However, real success will be immediately evident through an increase in the number of local businesses being awarded contracts. We need to assess progress against clear and transparent KPIs that include job creation and sustenance in Ireland and to make this information available regularly. We cannot afford to have another four years of too many SMEs being effectively excluded from public procurement.”
