Completing the Single Market
The Chambers of Commerce network across Europe has an inherent interest in the completion of the EU internal market and attaches considerable importance to tackling the many remaining barriers to the free movement of workers, goods, services and capital across Europe. One of the main things that Government can do to help Irish business to trade is to firstly ensure that companies can easily reap the benefits of the EU Single Market, particularly the Digital Single Market. Currently, the Single Market is not working as effectively as it could be and more needs to be done at European level to ensure that it is working in the interests of business, particularly SMEs.
- Ireland must work at European level to reduce red tape and unnecessary regulation so that Irish SMEs can fully benefit from the Internal Market.
- With an increasingly knowledge-based economy, Ireland stands to benefit significantly from an effective European Digital Single Market. Driving the completion and enforcement of the EU Single Market in digital services and e-commerce must be a priority for the new Government, and would greatly facilitate ease of doing business online for SMEs
